SMT Inspector

Inspector will be monitoring pin through-hole and surface mount components, board and box level assemblies, ensuring that customer requirement and IPC criteria have been met. Communicate non-conformances to team leaders if needed. Primary role is to identify and contain product issues within our facility. This role is for midnight shift. Training and shift premium provided.

RESPONSIBLITIES include, but not limited to:

  • In-process / Final Inspection of pin though-hole, surface mount, board and Box level assemblies using microscope or other inspection tools and equipment
  • Demonstrating a high level of inspection skill with a broad knowledge of solder joints and ensuring that IPC criteria has been met according to IPC-A-610 standard
  • Assure that products are inspected following instructions provided by Inspectors leader and Quality engineers. Sampling and inspection plans will be followed as defined and documented.
  • Inspection of Reworked pin through-hole and surface mount assemblies including fine pitch components and ensuring that IPC criteria has been met according to IPC 7711/7721 standard
  • Ensure full compliance with all applicable quality assurance standards and internal SOPs
  • Inspection of Hand soldering through-hole and surface mount components including fine pitch according to IPC-A-610 or IPC J-STD-001standard
  • Able to learn operation of AOI and X-ray Inspection Machines in order to inspect and locate solder defects for leaded and leadless components
  • Recording inspection data using Vision system
  • Communicate with Inspectors Leader, Quality Engineer, Process Engineer, and/or Team Leader regarding any major issues and be able to support root cause analysis as required
  • Support 5S+1 initiative within the team

Specific to SMT:

  • Inspection and support to quality engineer for inspection requirements
  • Ability to learn operation of ERSASCOPE and X-Ray machines to inspect and locate leadless solder joint defects
  • Providing feedback to operators to initiate immediate corrective measures
  • Providing support to line operators on set up related issues
  • Performing 2nd Check (Visual Inspection) to verify component IPNs and their feeder pick up locations against updated Setup Sheet prior to start of Work Order

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 2-year electronic assembly, ideally with SMT and thru-hole
  • Good communication skills, both orally and written, at all levels of an organization
  • Previous inspection experience is an asset
  • Strong background in IPC-A-610 (Acceptability of Electronics Assembly) is desired
  • Working knowledge of J-STD-001 (Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies) is desired
  • Organized and detail oriented
  • Strong problem solving and communication skills
  • Colour identification is a requirement for this role
